An Interview With Chloe Howe
Introduce yourself and your business
My business is Chloe Howe Micropigmentation, so I kept it nice and simple and I currently specialise in everything Scalp Micropigmentation.

Why did you decide to join the Micropigmentation industry?
I have a background in art and used to paint portraits and sell  commissions for a few years alongside my daytime job.  I always loved art but was never sure how to turn it into a career. I discovered Micropigmentation through my mum and after doing some research decided it was the perfect way for me to use my art but also make it into a career.

What did you do before joining the industry?
I always struggled to find what I wanted to do as a career so I ended up going into sales after school and that’s what I stayed doing for quite a few years. It never felt like the right path for me and I never felt settled in my job, luckily, I then found Micropigmentation and went on to train in SMP.

Why did you decided to train specifically in Scalp Micropigmentation?
My mum is a hairdresser so I’ve always had an interest in hair growing up in that environment. I was really drawn to the SMP results more so than the Semi Permanent Makeup results so for me, it just felt like more of a natural choice and interested me more at the time.

When did you first train with FTG and how many courses have you attended?
I first trained in June 2021, so not too long, I’m still quite fresh to the industry.

Can you describe your experience when you first started in Micropigmentation?
It was all through Covid really and I hadn’t been working for a while before, I just threw myself into it. I didn’t have a premises to work from or any clients. It was quite daunting to start with but my training at Finishing Touches helped build my confidence to go out and start treating people. What I did initially was rent a room by the hour so I called up a barbers and they allowed me to rent the room above there’s. It’s been a lot of going with the flow and seeing naturally where it took me. Being flexible helped me as well.

What advice would you give to those new in the industry?
Getting your name out there any way, you can whether that be on social media, websites, newspapers, just make people aware you are there. Go into it with confidence and with the mindset that you will find clients.

What do you put your success down to?
I’d say a big focus of mine is the customer experience and I really try to give the best experience possible to all my clients. I give them a lot of time when I do treatments, trying to make them feel as comfortable as possible. I also send lots of follow up messages and make sure they know they can message me anytime if they have any concerns or questions. Customer service has been the biggest part for me and building that trust with clients.

What are you most proud of achieving in your career so far?
Creating something that is bringing in my own income, since a young age I have wanted to have my own business and work for myself so the fact that I am doing it now full time and this is the only source of income for me makes me proud.

What’s your favourite Scalp Micropigmentation treatment to do?
It would have to be Female Hair Density; I just love seeing the results.
I think it always surprises my female clients, what can be done and the difference it can make.

How does working in this industry make you feel?
I feel thankful that I've found a career that I love, I'm thankful for all the people I get to meet and help.
I've never had a job that’s made me feel this way!

If you could do a treatment on anyone famous, who would you pick?
I would have to say Prince William just because I think he would look great with a shaved head.

What’s next for you, do you have any big plans?
I’m actually moving into a larger premises in a town nearby and I’ve just trained in lips so that’s a new treatment I will be adding to my clinic. I wanted a place a little more neutral for my female clients to feel comfortable as well as my male clients.

Can you tell us a bit about your training experience with FTG?
My scalp training was with Marzena and Emma, it was amazing, they made me feel so comfortable and I had a lot of support. They were so helpful during the whole training process and was able to ask questions after the course. When I booked my training, I spoke to dawn and her knowledge of the whole industry is incredible. When I was looking into training, I got in touch with a few artists who inspired me and all of them had trained with Finishing Touches. I could see during my training why FTG has such a huge reputation and why so many people train with them and recommend them.
