Can you please introduce yourself and your business?
Hi, I’m Nicole Rose of Permanent Make up by Nicole and this month my business has been running 10 years in Colchester, Essex.
Tell us a little bit about your journey into micropigmentation?
I trained back in 2014 with Finishing Touches. I have continued my training with them in Advanced techniques and skin needling.
It took me around 3 months to train, complete my case studies, and pass my final assessment and I’ve never looked back since. Before embarking on this career path I was previously an Assistant Bank Manager and then a Nail Tech. However, I wanted to start my own business and find something new that I could fit around my life and children.
What treatments are you currently offering in your clinic?
Within my clinic, I purely specialise in SPMU. I offer Brows, Lip Blush & Eyeliner, but with Brows being my most popular treatment and lips slowly becoming my favourite treatment option as for some strange reason I find it therapeutic!
You are a very busy technician - what would you put this success down to?
If I had to put my success down to anything I would say working long hours, evenings and 6 days a week, building a client profile by collaborating with local salon, reviews and Social Media. Furthermore, always continuing learning and perfecting my skill has been imperative to my practice. Confidence in yourself and practice makes perfect.
What advice would you give to someone starting out in the industry?
If I could give advice to anyone wanting to start a career in this industry it would be the following… Choose wisely who you train with and do your research first. It’s not only the training, it’s the support after you’ve trained that you need just as much. I can honestly say Finishing Touches have been amazing for me and the support they gave me after I trained, I couldn’t have done this without them.
These forms of treatment are complex due to a vast range of skin types, needles and pigments and always seek l the advice of an expert when you’re first starting out. Finishing Touches have always been so helpful, resourceful and even now, I still pick up the phone for advice and they always go above and beyond to help me.
Would you do anything differently in your career and if so what?
I don’t think I would do anything differently. I was lucky I was trained to a high standard and started this journey at a time where I didn’t have much competition in my area and have built a solid reputation in my town.
I’d be quite happy to forget about Covid as that was crippling for our industry and like many others, I was closed for nine and a half months in total that had a profound affect, but we came back stronger than ever.
Can you tell us what you love about your job
?
They say if you find a job you love you’ll never work a day in your life. I love my job, and the workload does get exhausting at times but you just have to manage your time and make sure you give yourself a break when your body is telling you to slow down.
On top of the procedures there are social media demands, stock ordering, messaging and bookings, so the job is never just 9-5 with the admin requirements surrounding my role. However, I wouldn’t change it for the world.
I do love what I do and I obtain incredible job satisfaction for making people feel better about themselves and bringing confidence to everyone that steps through my door.
